H100 Cycle Challenge Test Ride

Provide feedback on this Humungously hilly & demanding on-road cycle route

 H100 is a new Cycle Challenge over 100 tarmac Hills in Hadrian’s Wall Country & the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

  

·        100km circular route with more black arrows on the ground than the battle of Hastings!

·        Informal event

·       Up the South Tyne valley, east to the Allen Valley, north into Northumberland National Park & over Hadrian’s Wall, west into no-mans land and south to finish in Haltwhistle, the Centre of Britain

·        For the fit & the gutsy: not to be under-estimated!

·        Waymarked route / Car parking at start

·        Basic support (phone contact)

·        Race your own time - not other cyclists

Date: Sunday, 26 September, 2010

Start (9/9.30am) /end: Haltwhistle, Northumberland

H100 admin fee: £10 per bike – includes insurance

Minimum age for H100: 16 (with parental permission)

On the day:

·        Park at Kilfrost factory off the old main road in Haltwhistle (not directly accessible from the Haltwhistle by-pass). Drive to the eastern end of the Haltwhistle by-pass (A69) and turn towards Haltwhistle (left if coming from Carlisle; right if coming from Newcastle). Do not turn up into town centre but continue along lower road for 700m. Turn left under railway to overflow parking area (grid reference NY707637, postcode NE49 0HJ). See Map

·        Sign in from 8.45 am - collect ride number & route map

·        Ride slowly to start point (4 minutes) at entrance to Bellister Castle (grid reference NY699631).

·        Be sent off in small groups (last departure is 09-30am) (Ensure your start time is noted)

·        Self-navigate the route following waymarking

·        Visit check points at Haydon Bridge and Once Brewed

·        Provide own refreshments or obtain as indicated on the map 

·        Use water top-up points as shown on the map

·        Check-in / collect your time at end point near Eden Lawns Service Station at the western end of the old bypass road (grid reference NY707639).

 

Basic ride support

Phone number supplied in case of:

·        Being unable to continue for any reason

·        Lift back to start IF unable to cycle back

·        Mechanical breakdown assistance (excluding punctures)
