New for 2015, we are proposing a double C2C challenge, linking the North Sea, the Solway Firth and the Firth of Forth.
Day 1 Early morning rendezvous at Newcastle Quayside /Business Park. Follow Hadrians Cycleway up the Tyne valley, lunching at Hexham. At the 51 mile point at Gilsland, we divert onto the Reivers route to reach our overnight stopping place at Longtown. Total daily distance 73 miles.
Day 2 Follow National Cycle Network route 7 from Longtown via Gretna to Annan (16 miles). Here we join the new Scottish C2C route northwards via lunch stop at Moffat to our overnight stop at Peebles. Total daily distance 82 miles.
Day 3 Continue along the Scottish C2C from Peebles to lunch stop at Dalkeith, thence along the Edinburgh shoreline to the Forth Bridge. Total daily distance 55 miles.
At the finish, participants can catch the local train from Dalmeny back to Edinburgh Waverley, thence by the East Coast main line to Newcastle. Meanwhile bikes will be returned on the van and trailer to a rendezvous point in Newcastle.
The ride is suitable for road bikes, luggage carried in the support van which will accompany the riders throughout.
Minimum of 10 participants required to run this event. If not already part of a group or club, please drum up your friends to form a party to tackle this challenge. Cost will be determined by quality of accommodation required - maybe £150 for B and B.
