Peak Cycle Loop
June 23rd/24th,
2012
An invitation by
Sustrans founder John Grimshaw CBE of
Peak Cycle Links to join a two day Family Fun ride in the
Derbyshire Peak District, following the successful inaugural ride in August 2011.
The route runs Buxton to Matlock via the newly opened Monsal
Trail and back again to Buxton via the High Peak Trail and proposed linking
paths to Buxton. Nearly
60 miles in all with overnight camping provided at Cromford. The route is easily cycleable with nearly 30 miles of open railway trail including the new Monsal
Trail opened in 2011 with 6 tunnels through the spectacular Wye
Gorges. Most of the rest of the way follows very lightly trafficked roads
although there will be about three miles along level sections of the A6 where
there is currently no alternative route, between Matlock and Cromford.
This ride is suitable for families, confident cyclists and novices of almost any
age. It will be guided throughout by local cyclists and members of
Peak Cycle Links,
There will be full backup from David Gray and Chain Events
with luggage and tents
transported and
campsite and breakfast supplied. He will even provide some deserving cases with a lift
up the only two hills on the route at the Middleton Top inclines after Cromford
and the long hill up from Earl Sterndale to Staker Hill above Buxton.
Do come to join in this ride along wonderful new sections and links
of the National Cycle Network.
Price £40 per person, family rate negotiable.
